C. Da via, recalledfrom command of the marine detachment at Guam.Uear-Admiral S. M. Comly is designated president and Major Henry Leonard, of the Marine Dorps, as judge-advocate. Col. George Ilarnett is the ranking officer of the Marine Corps on the court. The trial will begin at the Philadelphia Navy Yard January 4. Major Davis Is now on his way from San Francisco to Philadelphia to stand trial.According to the official statement, the objectionable letter written to the Navy Department by Major Davis criticised the department’s action and impugned the i motives of Major-Gf n. George F. Elliott., until recently commandant of the corps, i An officer In Major Davis' command had I been reprimanded hy him because of an ! irregularity in conducting a bugle call. The officer requested Major Davis not to put the reprimand on his record, which was « granted. Word of the reprimand finally j reached General Elliott, however, who wrote a letter of censure to Major Davis, holding that Ills action in not putting the j reprimand on the officers’ record was ir- • regular and without authority. Major jDavis appealed to the Navy Department,; with the result that General Elliott’s action t was sustained. Thereupon Major Davis j wrote another letter to the department,! in which he arraigned the Marine Corps and naval authorities, charging discrimina- • tion. Major Davis owes his coming court- I martial to the writing of this letter. I
