SStli INDIANA,History of a Famous Alien Coanty Regiment.A very very and complete history of this regiment has been prepared under the direction of Col. Briant and Adjt. A. H. Doug-all, a copy of which is before us as we write. The 88th Indiana volunteers is peculiarly an Allen county regiment. Out of the 1,098 men who composed it, 416 were residents of Allen county when they enlisted. Of these eighty were either Killed or died of wounds or disease while in the service, and eighty-one have died since discharge. Prominent amongj the dead are the names of the first colonel* George Humphrey; the first adjutant, Hartman B. DuBarry; snrgeon, Dr. James S. Gregg; surgeon, Dr. William D. Meyers; captain, Isaac H. LeFevre; lieutenants, Isaac Bateman, J. D. Stopher, JohnG. Goheen, Thomas Sullivan, John D. Cartwright; sergeants, Anthony McCrone, Julian Becquette, Edward Kicklev, John Douglass, Henry C. McClelland, David Stoner, Smiley M. McCurdy, Ales C. McCurdy, JohnH. Fleming and Lewis Sweet. Many of our most prominent citizens belonged to this organization. Fort Wayne may well be proud of its record. The work has had a very Battering reception from the comrades of the regiment. Here is a specimen of the letters addressed to Captain Dougall in reference to it.Columbus, Ohio, Dec. 8,1895.My Dear Captain:—I want to thank you most heartily for the history of the 88th Indiana. It is the briefest and most complete regimental history I have seen and will be preserved by the descendants of the soldiers of the regiment the next five hundred years. In brief it will grow in interest as it grows in age, just as all such books do.Yours Respectfully,John- Beatti*.Mr. Beatty is president of the Citizens savings bank, of Columbus, Ohio,Will Nnf; ifin Tn tha Twiof
