Evans took a deep space w a l k Sunday, stepping out of the homeward-bound Apollo 17 180,000 miles from earth to retrieve film from the rear of the craft.Bundled in a stiff pressure suit and attached to a 25-foot lifeline, Evans opened the hatch of command ship America and moved outside for a 15-foot trip to the camera bay.“He there’s the earth right out the hatch,” Evans exclaimed as he slipped out the hatch. “Beautiful. Hey, that sun is bright. Whoo!”“When you get out there take it nice and slow and easy. You’ve got all day,” commander Eugene A. Little Kevin Steen of Cave Creek, Ariz., who could talk on even terms , with spacemen on the subject of courage, Saturday boarded the Apollo 17 prime recovery ship as a special guest of the Navy for Tuesday’s splashdown.The slender, blond son of Mr. and Mrs. Orion Steen Jr.,has had nine operations for cancer. Doctors told him more than a year ago he had only a few months to live but he is still going strong.Kevin, age 12, has become an adopted son of space agency personnel, having: toured the Kennedy Space Center in Florida as, the guest of Apollo 13 command pilot Jack Swigert and also watched inMission Control at Houston during the Apollo 15 flight.He was greeted by Rear Adnbt. John L. Butts Jr., com-m-a n d e r of the Manned ‘ Spacecraft Recovery Force, Pacific, and seemed a little . subdued with all the attention..
