Medal Of Honor WinnerTakes Life At MorristownMORRISTOWN - Calvin John Ward, 65, one of Hamblen Counly’s two World War I winners of the Congressional Medal of Honor, was an apparent suicide Friday, according (o Morristown police.City Detective Keith Franklin said that Ward, who had been i:i ill health for several years, shot himself once in Ike right chest in the presence of James Buford Williams, in his room at Morris Hotel.Williams [old police lie tried to talk Ward out of shooting himself, but was unsuccessful.Ward won Hie Melal of honor in France, Oct. 8, 1918, when he captured a machinegun nest, killing Ihreo Germans and capturing seven others.He was born in Greene County, but bad been living in Morristown tor many years.
