Even the majority 01 those who figured in the revamping of the company in 1928, undei Capt. George Sherman, are nc longer on the roster.Only three of the veterans. First Lieutenant I^ester T. Schuler, Stafi Sgt. Fred T. Bruni and First Sgt. Frank M. Ryder, remain. Lt. Schuler is the only one of five commissioned officers who command the company \vho has passed the 10-year mark of service.' The company is at full strength now and the majority of the enlisted men range between 18 and20 years of age. It was explained that the enlistment trend today is toward high school students or recent graduates. After their three-year enlistment period is up and •ometimes before, many of these men go away to college or obtain positions outside of Janesville. The larger part of the discharges issued to these men have “Removal from ccnipany station” as the reason.Standing Remains High While the younger men are not in the unit as long as in past years, the high rating of the company Is not affected because it is claimed they learn much faster. The main problem is however, that company 1officers must rebuild the unit con-; tinually. Although a large number get past the rank of private, a goodly number continue until they have become non-commissioned officers before they retire. This is undoubtedly the reason for frequent promotion for men in the ranks. The non-coms are older In years of service but not always In age. Another advantage of having younger men is found during summer camp training periods which they are able to stand much better.Lt. Schuler recently received his15-year medal for service. He enlisted again that year but when he was again * discharged in 12G, he was a staff ‘ aergeant. The following day, May •, 1026, he was commissioned see- lt;ond lieutenant of Infantry. His 1 next promotion came in 1030 when £ he was made first lieutenant *Ryder Is Oldest (Sgt. Ryder was one of the or- a Iginal members who served in the a local rifle company before the Wisconsin National Guard was organised. He was made a first sergeant Jan. 16, 1022 and has held that position since. He has been offered further advancements but he declined them as he would have to give up his position as mechanic at the'Janesville armory.Sgt. Fred Bruni is the next in line lor the 15-year-service medal, having been a member of the Wisconsin National Guard for more than 14 years. He transferred to the Janesville company about 1024 from Company K, 128th infantryof Monroe.Capt. Wilbert E. Ryan came into the company in 102S; Lt. Howard D. Wade in 1027; Lt. Walter Write in 15*34; and Lt. Floyd E. Wood about 1028. Sgts.
