OIXMntAI tLfcbFiremen Assist Marcellus Dept.SKANEATELES — The Skan-eateles Fire Department assisted Marcellus firemen at a fire Thursday which destroyed a large bam. It was on the old Seneca Turnpike near Marcellus. The farm is owned by Theodore E. and Roy Davey of 37 Hanum St., Skaneateles, and occupied by the Donald Van-Derveer family. The fire is believed to have been caused by defective wiring in an old section of the barn. Chief George Spearing went with 25 men and three pieces of apparatus. The local firemen were at the scene for about 71-* hours.Skaneateles Central School varsity and junior varsity basketball teams won one and lost one of their league games last Friday night. The varsity defeated Marcellus 74 to 54. while the JVs lost their game to Marcellus 57 to 47.Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shumway of 163 E. Genesee St., have received word that their son Navy Ensign Geoffrey R. Shumway recently flew his first solo flight at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.The annual Christmas party of the Skaneateles Firemen's P'iremen’s Auxiliary was held at Auburn Inn last Tuesday evening.Miss Joyce Kitts, a third grade teacher at Fairport School, is appearing in a series of six TV programs on a health and safety program for third and fourth grade pupils. The programs are on a Rochester station Tuesday mornings. Miss Kitts is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kitts of East Genesee St. She is a graduate of Skaneateles Central School and Cor-! nell University.St. Mary’s of the Cake Church Saints Basketball Team defeat-ded the House of Providence team Saturday 42-21. David Turner with 14 points was high scorer for the winners.Skaneateles Central School wrestlers broke even in matches last week. Tuesday they were defeated by the Fayetteville- ' Manlius team 36-11. Friday the ! Skaneateles matmen won from the Jordan-Elbridge team 28 to 26.Miss Carol Clark has been named one of 32 Girl Scouts from the Central New York ( Council to go to the 1C65 Senior , Round-up in Idaho in July.Mrs. Dorothy Stearns, town clerk of Skaneateles, has an- j nounced that the sale of dog licenses has started and the deadline is Jan. 1.
