Fatal to AirmanLA‘2C Franklin J. Chastoon, 21, of Sheppard Air Force Base, was accidentally shot to : death early Sunday morning in, a shooting gallery at 704 Ohio.Chasteen, 3770th Technical Training Squadron, died in SAFB hospital at 1:33 a. m., 45 minutes after tie was shot in the gallery, Where he had part-time job. .Detectives R; 4* (Doc) Nelson and P. E. (Cotton) Malone and Patrolman Wayne Henricksen said Chasteen was shot when he walked in front of a gun fired by a close friend, Raymond L. Warner, 20, 3762nd Technical Training Squadron, No charges were filed and Warner was reported near collapse.Carol Garcia, 14, who also works at the shooting gallery, told officers all of the guns were being checked to see that they had been ^emptied, and that the establishment was getting ready to- close for the night. Just before 1 a.m., the girl said Warner picked up a Smith Wesson .22 caliber target pistol, pointed ,it at a target and fired once.The girl and thet other airman in the gallery at the time said Chasteen walked in front of Warner just at the time the pistol was fired. He was lushed to* the base hospital in a private automobile by Warner, Harold Shropshire, 3750th Technical Training Squadron, and Robert F. Burton, 3763rd Student Squadroh.5AFB doctors said that Chasteen died from a gunshot Wound in the right side, accidentally inflicted. No Inquest verdict has been returned.
