Local Men ReceiveCombat DecorationsCombat decorations have been presented to Joseph E. B. Crenshaw, 520 Taylor, and Shelby D. Thames, 2814 Alameda. Eigth Naval District Headquarters, announced today at New Orleans.Crenshaw, former pharmacist’s mate, first class. USNR, has been awarded the Silver Star. Citation for the award partially reads, “For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the Second Marine Division, during action against enemy Japanese forces on Saipan, Marianas Island, on June 18, 1944.”The Bronze Star Medal was awarded to Thames, former Lt.(jg). USNR, for meritorious service in connection with military operations from October,1944, to July, 1945.”Thames entered the Navy on Feb. 9. 1942, and served overseas i for 20 months. While serving ! with the Office of Strategic Serv-| ices, he took part in various secret assignments in Egypt, Italy and Romania. He was released from active duty on Nov. 12,1945.t
