WAR STRIKES CLOSE TO CITYBig Prarie Youth ‘Wounded In Action’; Brother of Mansfield Man Killed.War struck close to Mansfield today, as word arrived of the first casualties from this area in the Pacific conflict.Eugene Oscar Roe, IS, a na\al gunner, brother of a Mansfield resident, was kilJed at Pearl Harbor Sunday, the navy reported.| The brother, George H. Roe, of 706 Bowman street, an employe of the Barnes Manufacturing company, has been a Mansfield resident for six months Name of the slup on which the youth was stationed was not disclosed. He was a son of Morris B Roe of Portsmouth and Mrs Karl F. Reider of Lancaster. Burial will be at Pearl Harbor.Another casualty from this area was revealed in a telegram from the navy department: to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bowen, of Big Prairie, Wayne county, which advised that their only son, Samuel F. Bowen, 25, was “wounded in action/'The telegram cautioned the family about disclosing the name of his ship, and said that details concerning him and his condl- , tion would follow.
