CELEBRATEDFrom Thandifa Dally.Zaoh Chandler Post and W. R. C. enjoyed the 26th anniversary of the organization at G. A. JR. hall today, beginning with the banquet at 12 o’olook. There was hardly a suggestion of army fare in the ration that wifi served today. There were Deans, but they were not •oorohed, and there was coffee, bat it had oream in it if the drinker chose, instead of being black andwithout sugar.About 100 partook ef the banquet, and the baskets of fragments would have fed many more. When the board was cleared and'tho •eats arranged, the exercises opened With the singing of Marching Through Georgia, after whioh Fast Commander Bodges read a brief aooonnt of the organization ot the Post.On July 28th, 1881, a paper was drawn up as follows:We, the undersigned agree to pay one dollar eaoh to pay for ioi-tiation into the Grand Army of the Republic.It was signed as follows:Chas. Joseph Anderson.After considerable correspondence the post was organized tbe evening of Deo. 12, 1881, by Geo. - Wright with in or 12 comrades* -WPfrom Bangor in the building then standing where the library now i stands, to the mnsio of a terrible rain whioh continued all night iot long atterward under the auspices of tbe post the first W. R. C. in the state was organized. Later a oamp of Sons of Veterans was organised, and supplies and guns were purchased.Everything was lost by the fire of July 31st, 1891. Since then the post has been housed m several places, Monroe hall, Peck ham, hall, french# hall, Odd fellows hall, thence to our preeent home. In the 26 years there have been fifteen commanders—Hodges, Jillson, Hicks, Dodge, Smith, Bradley, Earle, Prentice, Biddle, Cook Butterfield, Donahue, Hilliard, Matthews, Marti*.Following the history there were readings by Comrade Biddle, Mrs. Dunner, Mrs. Biddle,Comrades Gillespie and G; iX Chapman, De La-Fountain, and several violin solosand songs with violin aooompani-dment by Comrade Gillespie of Li-ooia, who is a host in himself. There were also remarks by other oomrades, all adding to the very pleasant occasion.
