We had no rails and we lay down in water and we slept. Well, when the dawn broke, wc awoke and found ourselves in a cemetery close by a former dressing station and quite a few unburied dead, covered by blankets only, lay in o^ir midst. One fellow in our company lay beside one and said he wondered why the fellow wouldn’t share his blankets. Ha, ho couldn't.The roads and by-ways over here are of solid macadam and are wonderful. And they arc kept up. Alongside the road arc piles of rock every thirty feet. Every time a hole is detected the roadmaster repairs it. Whenever it rains the mud and water are swept off.
