ASKS CEDAR RAPIDS TD HELP DEAT SPY SYSTEMThat the country is determined to put down pro-German activities through the enactment of spy legislations is evidenced in a communication to City Clerk L. D. Storey from H. D. Craig, secretary of the American Defense society. Mr. Storey, with the local Preparedness committee, is asked to circulate a petition urging congress , to recognize the need of laws which will compel Germans to keep their mouth shut.”The laws asked would provide penalties for pro-Germans who utter disloyal remarks or impede or interfere with recruiting. In the past the federal agents have been confronted with a problem in dealing with disloyal persons because of the lack of laws pov-I ering many instances.Persons who will be asked to sign the petition, will be only urging congress to investigate and if they find the situation needs it. to enact laws which will break up any Germany spy svstem which may exist in this country.
