Mrs. Willis Hickam, Spencer, Ind.My Dear Mrs. Hickam:—Thank you for your letter of the 25th. Wish to assure you that any gifts you send our boys at Christmas will be more than appreciated—for we know how glad they will be to receive them and what a comfort it will be to them to know that others outside of their immediate families are thinking of them. By all means send the little books for we know they too will be appreciated by the boys.Again thanking you, remain yours sincerely,ALICE C. BEATLE, Chief Nurse.A large number of sick or wounded soldiers are now being sent to the new government hospital at West Baden. Many of these poor fellows were among those most seriously wounded in the fighting in France. They are , brought directly from the trenches, or j ~ from the temporary hospitals, to tl.isf new institution at West Baden, and they are hungry for good things from home. There is nothing they like better than home made jellies, jams and preserves. The War Mothers of Owen county have been called upon to do their share in furnishing these good things for the wounded boys, and preparations are being made to send a box from Spencer in a short time. All war mothers in the county, and all others who desire to furnish something for this shipment are requested to bring in jellies, jams, preserves, or other home made dainties as soon as possible. Goods should be delivered to Mrs. Willis Hickam, at Spencer.\alsWshould be sent early. Let the women from the country respond generously.The box is to go for Christmas and ; antil!The men who helped pay the inevi- D table price of victory in the great war are coming home but there will be no parades for them, no march down Fifth avenue, N.
