About noon an attack was made upon this small force by three or four timestheir number, at first partly in front on the right, but this was designed only as a feint. Our loss is, so far as known, 18 killed, abmt 89 wounded, and about 490 prisoners, and one 10 pound pnrrot.- Just so much more than it ought ovmeed to havo been, ns nothing- was gained by our victory if a groator loss than tho enemy with possession of the field can be called a victory. The rebel loss is believed to have been very much heavier than ours in killed and wounded, and 04 prisoners. . The 23d lost in all 135, xncstly prisoners.. Col. Guppy was wounded' in'the 'leg and Jakcn prisoner, Cnpt. Bull was taken on the picket line. Liout. Stanly,. Lieut.-—with others whoso names 1 havo not learned.- Maj.
