Tri+Toivn* jEmil DiUbaldo 1 Receives Award i__IGets Silver Star for Action Against Germans In July at Carentan, France ■ ■Tri-Towns, Dec. 2.—The Silver Star medal has been awarded to ; Sgt, Emil DiUbaldo,. son of Mr. and : Mrs. Andrew DiTJbeldo, Luke, for 1 gallantry in action on July 11, 1944, near Carentan, Prance.The citation dated Nov. 5 reads: In an attack against well hidden and carefully prepared enemy positions Sgt. DiUbaldo, in order to determine the source of enemy fire and the most advantageous points at which to breach the hedge-rows, fearlessly exposed himself to enemy observation and direct fire in making a reconnaissance. -He then led his squad forward and succeeded in breaching the hedge-row so successfully as to discloee an enemy tank: which was the main support of enemy fire. This enabled the destruction of the tank and opened the way for the infantry attack to continue. The conspicuous courage and outstanding leadership and initiative of the non-commissioned officer reflect tha highest credit on himself and the finest traditions of the armed service of the United States.”He entered the service Oct. 14. 1942 and was sent over seas last March. HLs outfit participated in action at Carentan and St. JLo and took St. Malo and Dinard in Brittany. His last letter was written in Luxembourg.Lt. Virginia DiUbaldo. his sister, j joined the Army Nurse Corps in I February. aTony A. DiUbaldo. 5F 2c, with a Navy construction battalion in the Pacific, was on Pejeliu in the Palau Islands on Sept. 24, according to letters received by his parents. .Cpi. John DiUbaldo, who was captured by the Japanese in the Philippines, is a prisoner in Tokyo.
