Three JoinReserve UnitThree area men are newmembers of the US Naval Reserve Surface Division 8-40 lt;Sh according to Lt. Com. T. L. Pope, commanding officer.Two of them seaman recruits, were given the oath in ceremonies at the regular weekly drill. Pope said The third is a veteran Naval officer who has affiliated with the unit.New recruits are Carl Mayfield. 1414 Magnolia. Brown-wood Lt. Kenneth R King, 2501 Greenway, Brownwood. is the veteran member Mayfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Mayfield, is a senior at Brownwood High School. Hyatt is a 1%9 graduate of Comanche High School and is engaged in farming with his father.King, w'ho is with the local social security office, has been placed in charge of the unit's training program.Among his active duty experiences were tours in the Medi-terannean area and in Vietnam as an office1- in charge of a combat unit.The new reservists will attendthe regular Wednesday nightdrills at the Navy building onthe Howard Payne College campus.
