XXXII.SOLDIERS’ REUNIONOld Veterans Have a Bi^ TimeAt Otwell.The Occasion Enlivened by Able Ad-dresses and Music.VLast Thursday and Friday the old soldiers of Pike count}- held their annual reunion at Otwell in the beautiful West park, near the village.. Flags and bunting were everywhere displayed, and the citizens vied with each other in decorating. The Otwell band resplendent in their new uniforms, furnished the music for the• occasion. The band Is composed of fifteen members and rendered splendid music during the reunion.The reunion opened Thursday when Rev. J. P. Hargrave delivered the welcome address, which was responded to by one of the comrades present. During the first da.y it rained, but there were many people present during the day between showers. Among those who made addresses on Thurs-dry were Rev. J. P. Hargrave, Rev. John B. Hadlock, Wil Ham Fowler, Dr.Godwin, Sam Stuckev and Rev. G. G.• •*Heuring. At the campfire meetingthat night the old veterans gave reminiscenes of the old war times and sang songs and had a good time in general. . . ■.' . Friday was the big day, when people came from Daviess, Martin and Dubois counties, Pike, of coursevwas represented from every section, and it is estimated that there were 3,000 people present in the afternoon. Old comrades'met-and with their friends engaged in shaking hands and renewing their acquaintance of other years. Addresses were made in the morning* by J. P. Hargrave, W. S. Hunter, John K. Chappell and others. At thenoon hour Colonel Chappell announced that dinner was ready for the old soldiers and their families on the grounds. The eating house was very large aud accommodated about a dred at a time. A splendid meal prepared and which was relished by the old veterans.In the afternoon *:he principal addresses were delivered by JudgeE. A. Ely and S. G. Davenport. Others made short talks and the old veterans engaged in singing some of *the old war songs, after which the colonelgave the command “Break ranks54 and the reunion was over.That evening at the park, an exhibition of fireworks was given by Will Braden and a free concert b\r' the colored jubilee club-of Petersburg, which was largel}- attended. ;The Otwell band boys '■gave an en-entertainment at Scanland’s opera house which was largely attended and netted the band a handsome. suinNof money. ^ .. . .In the afternoon at. the ball park the Otwell ball club defeated the Waco club by a score of 18 to 3. a The Otwell club is one of the best in the• • ’ V. •county. -Much credit is due the members of Gen. Lyons Post, No. 134, for the manner in which the program was arranged and carried out and- for the great success of the reunion. They are to be congratulated on their effort.
