Three colored boys left last Thursday for Fort Dodge, Des Moines, Iowa to enter military service. They were the first colored boys to be called from Owen county.A large number were present at the program given in the court house corridor. Capt. D. E. Beem presided, and a fine talK was made by Rev. Robb Zaring of Chicago and Pleasant Evans, the only surviving colored soldier in the county who fought in the Civil War, made an excellent talk to the boys. Mrs. R. D. Trent of the W. K, C, presented them with silk flags and Mrs. J. A. Lavmon of the W. C. T. U. gave them 4‘housewives.”Those who left were Alonzo Scott, Herman Reed and Frederick Phillips.
