Naval Air Station, Corpus Ohristi, Texas. He was commissioned a Second Lieut, in the United States Marine CorpsReserve.The award of wings at graduation ceremonies in the office of Captain Alfred E. Montgomery, Commandant, marked the completion of an intensive training course fitting him for duty with the fleet.Rau volunteered for Navy flight ;trainirfg in June, 1941, After re- Ireiving basic flight instruction at !the Naval Reserve Aviation Base, j Glenview, he was transferred to 1JCorpus Christi.Here at the “University of the7Air,” he has received thorough instruction iti flying the Navy’s fighting planes, has mastered the intricacies of instrument flying, J and has completed all types of : ground school courses ranging \ from navigation and radio code to recognition of friendly and enemyaircraft.Rau attended Wheaton College.
