■I*-OBITUARY.Thomas Connor.Thomas Connor was bom in Londonderry, Ireland, December 26, 1837. Hedied in Earlville, August 27,1919, aged 81 years, 8 months and 2 days. He was the youngest child of Joseph and Charity Gilfillan Connor. The others were Lydia, Jane, Rachael, Mary, Joseph and John, all deceased.When Thomas was fifteen years cf age he came alone to America and lived in Massachusetts When Pres. Lincoln called for volunteers to serve the Union, no enlisted at Boston and served the three months. Then ho came to Illinois where his relatives were then living and re-enlisted for three years and served to the close of the war. He was enrolled in Co. D, 23rd Illinois Infantry, Col. Mulligan commander until his death in batttle and then the captain of this company, Samuel Simison, became Colonel and served to the close of the war* Those who knew Private Thomas Connor describe him as a faithful, industrious, splendid, kind soldier in the ranks. A noble dependable comrade has fellen asleep* Those who knew him bestfor whom he cared so lovingly will miss him most of all. After the closo of the war he lived in this vicinity un- „ til about tho year of the world’s fair in Chicago. Since that until 1914 he made his home in the National Soldier's Home n Milwaukee.In that year his sister .Mrs. Garland.died, and he came to Earlville andhelped care for hTs sister's family. He has been like a father to his niece,Miss Kate Garland, since she was bereft of her father In infancy.How true the line “The young may die, but the old must.”The funeral was held in the Presbyterian church.
