Former Wacoans HusbandReceives Air Force HonorColonel Albert L. Holcomb, Air Force Communications Service (AFCS) deputy director of supply, has been awardedthe Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic actions during a helicopter rescue mission in the Republic of Vietnam.Colonel Holcomb was cited for his extraordinary achievement under extremely dangerous conditions culminating inthe rescue of a downed pilot. The colonel accomplished the feat in an HH53 helicopter near Quang Tri, Vietnam, June 30, 1970.Before coming to the globalcommand headquarters at Richards - Gebaur Air Force Base, Mo., Colonel Holcomb of Waco, commanded the 37th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron, Da Nang Air Base, Vietnam. He won the SilverMIDSHIPMAN GREGG W. WE INSTEAD, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Welstead of 424 Richland, Waco, is one of 600 midshipmen taking part in a special eight-week summer training program aboard U.S. First Fleet ships operating off the West Coast and Hawaii.Star in March 1971 for recovering a downed U.S. Marine pilot.Colonel Holcomb is married to the former Joyce Lavern Holloway, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.
