Most of the Bloomington people returned on the six o’clock train, but quite a number remained to theevening camp-fire.It was just twenty-five years ago yesterday that the regiment left Bloomington for Benton Barracks, St. Louis. They remained there but ten days preparing an outfit and securing trains and then went into camp at Kolia, Mo. Here they watched for opportunities, and a few day later marchedto Springfield, 125 miles distant. On Wednesday, Dec. 3, they broke camp andstarted on a large and arduous march,reaching Fayetteville. Ark., 120 miles distant, onthe following Saturday. Sunday morning they started again and met the rebels under Gen. Hindman at Prairie Grove, with a force of 20,000 men. Gen. Herron’s forces consisted of 6,000 men. Monday morning, on finding the Confederates gone, the march was resumed after them, G5 miles to Fort Smith.The regiment afterwards returned to St. Louis, and in May, 1863, took part in the Beige of Vicksburg and went down the Mississippi river when opened and on to Brownsville, lexas; stopping at Port Hudson three weeks, and in camp at Carlton.At Morganza on Dana’s Morganza Bay ex-pidition Col. McNulta was wounded by a she'll. They then went to Brownsville, Texas, and back to the siege of Fort Morgan, and then to the siege of Mobile. Thence they proceeded to Galveston, Texas. They were mustered out in July, 1865, and paid off in Springfield, Illinois, August U, 1865. 1At Prairie Grove, Col. Moore; Surgeon, ltoss; Assistant Surgeon, Stewart; Assistant Surgeon, Skaggs; Quartermaster sergeant, It. S. McIntyre; Commissionary sergeant, Carlton Goring; sergeant-major, Henry Provost; Hospital Steward, H. W. Boyd; Captains: Co. A, A.T. Briscoe; Co. B, Jas. C. McFarland; Co.C, John Franklin; Co. D, Geo. Brown; Co.E, John Itoutt; Co. F. Aaron Walden; Co.G, Aaron Buckles; Co. H, Jas. P. Orme;Co. I, Wm. H. Mann; Co. J,----; Co.K, Jas. Burch;'Chaplain, Itobt. £. Guthrie; Waymuster, C. W. Lander.
