Do. D captures .Baseball Title of Regiment; R. M. TarteU, Co.R, Stars at Target.Best national guard encampment in years/' That's the kind of a recommendation members of Cos. B and D gave when they returned yesterday evening after a 15 days' sojourn for study of military tactics at Camp Bodge. Headquarters company. Cedar Palls, and a Dubuque unit came on the special train bringing the Waterloo guardsmen.“The men were well pleased, everyone had a good time and wasj well fed during the encampment/' said Capt. Leonard Laird, commander of Co. *B, today. “We want those who attended /our armory dances last winter to know that the money earped in those affairs went toward elaborating upon our. menu at the state encampment/' saidCapt. Howard J. Rouse, commander of Co. D.Tarbell Stars at Target.Robert M. Tarbell, Co. Bt won the right to shoot at the annual rifle meet at Camp Perry, O., thru his target work. Sergt Forrest O. Wing also may go to Camp Perry. The One Hundred and Thirty-third regiment, of which the Waterloo companies were a part, won over the One Hundred and Sixty-eighth regiment in the rifle matches by a margin of GOO points. Tarbell learned rifle shooting under Lieut. W. H. Durchdenwald at west high last year.Co. D placed third in the field meet last Tuesday, winning two firsts and one second. It also claims the baseball championship of the regiment, having eliminated the headquarters company, Cedar Falls. Members of the Waterloo companies, will have opportunity to practice the lessons learned on the Camp Bodge rifle range because of the lease of a range here for rifle and machine- gun practice.Learn Use of Machine Gun.While at Camp Dodge, Co. D had several days of machine gun practice on the rifle range there and had opportunity to become thoroly acquainted with the operation of the new equipment. Both Cos. B and D still have room for a few recruits and the opportunity of joining these outfits will remain open for a short time, company commanders indicated today.•As soon as Nebraska • national guard, now in camp at Camp Dodge, leaves, the buildings will be torn down and stucco ones will be erected in a square which will become the permanent home of. Iowaguard encampments. Waterloo guardsmen report an immense swimming pool is now under construction at. Camp Dodge, which will be the scene of swimming tourneys for guardsmen in future. The plans call for making an attractive place for the nse of the guardsmen.
