Lt. Col. Charles R. Arvin, a na tive of southern Indiana, will take command of the four Nike-Her cules missile batteries in the Cin cinnati Defense Area on Sept. 15. His headquarters and residence will be in Wilmington. His Army career began upon his graduation from high school in 1933 when he served a three-year enlistment. He left the service but was recalled as a reserve officer in 1941. He was in the Pacific Theatre during World War III. He returned to the States and at tended advanced artillery school. His tours included assignments in Alaska and Iran. He was grad uated this spring from the U. S. Command and General Staff Col lege at Ft. Leavenworth, Kans. His wife is the former Maxine Armstrong. They have three chil dren, John, 20, a sophomore at Texas Western College, El Paso, Tex., James eight and ran three. LT. COL, C. R. ARVIN
