1KILLED l\ BLCM KHol siMarfa. Tex . An trust 22—Four Mexican bandits were killed by American troops in Mexico Wednesday, accord in it to Capt. leonard Matkn-k.who armed here by airplane last night. They were surrounded in an adobe blockhouse that the Mexicans had constructed in a mountain pass.The bandits fought desperately when they found they were trapped and two escaped. When the American troops approached the blockhouse with the intention of searching it for hidden bandits the Mexicans openedfire from port hole*.The fire was returned and the blockhouse charged by the \meriean cavalry troop*.Three of the four Mexicans killed hu\e been identified as Jesus Janir, Francisco Janir and Jose Puentes.All four of the men are known to Captain Matlock as bandit' operating along I he Big Bend border for y ears.The two men who escaped were pur-sueed. hut the trail was lost in themountain canyon*.It is known that Jesus Renteria, leader of the outlaw hand that captured Lieutenants Harold G. Peterson and Paul H. Davis. American aviators. was not among the dead.Captain Matlock said he passed a column of 200 Carranza troops below the border yesterday. The Carran/a commander, Matlock reported, asked where the American troops were going. When he was informed that the Americans were pursuing bandits who had held the American aviators, theC arranza commander waved his hand and said “Go ahead.” No effort was made to hinder the punitive expedition.
