Wright of Idaville was published in the Evening Gazette, of Cedarville, Ohio, August 7: Just as a German was about to bayonet one of John C. Wright’s comrade Marines, the young Cedar.ville man shot the adversary in the side and set his ammunition on fire. “He did not last long afterthat,” says the 18-year^old Marine in a letter to his parents, Deputy Probate Judge and Mrs. S. C. Wright. The letter, the first re ceived by the young man’s family in weeks, is supposed to have been written about the time the Murines were victorious at Chauteau-Thierry It is as follows:Dearest Folks: Well, for the first time in the last month I have found time to write to you, I havelast twenty days. Our company was “over the top” twice, I didn’t get a scratch but we lost quite a few of our men. You probably re. member of me speaking of Charley James and Alexander Short both enlisted with me; they were wounded but not very badly.We captured a lot of Hons, I do not know just how many. There was oue of them I got who will never be any good any more. He was about to strike a Marine when I shot him through the side and set his ammunition on lire. He did nut last very long after that. There are so many things I would like to write you which time will not permit. But, believe me, the Marines have the reputation of being America’s best fighters and they sure live up to it.I have been through Paris and expect to go there again in the near future 011 liberty. I expect to have a great time. I suppose the papers are full of war news from the front and you folks know more what is going on than I do. *How are things going on in Ce-darville?
