There was a large attend anco of veterans with their wives and children.The Thirty-second Maine was a remarkable regiment. It left Maine in tho spring of 1864, with 960 members. On tho .‘list day of the noxt July only nineteen men answered tho rolL The regiment had boon literally smashed to pieces. It had plunged at once into tho Wilderness campaign, and at Spottsylvania, North Anna and Cold Harbor had tasted military life under Grant. Finally, at the mine at Petersburg, it met its heaviest loss. Col. Mark F. Wentworth, now surveyor of Portland, was in command and was wounded.The business meeting was called to order by Prosident William M. Dow of Gray, who spoke briefly, greeting the comrades present He roferred to the oldest man present, Captain A. F. Noyes of Norway, who was a venerable figure, in blue clothes still decorated with the army buttons. Captain Noyes went tc the front throe times, with the Fourteenth, Twenty-third and Thirty-second.Secretary E. C. Milliken of Portland, read the records, and Treasurer J. B. Ham, of Lewiston gave a statement ol the finances.Henry C. Ho uston of Portland, made his report as historian. But two deaths had come to his notice during tho year: Dr. Henry S. B. Smith of Middleboro, Mass., a native of Bridgton and graduate of Bowdoin and Joel H. Little of Bremen, Mo., Seargeant. A history of the regiment is under way. James L. Meservo ol Center Lovell, and Lorenzo D. Hobls oi Norway, were reported additionally as having died daring tho year.Comrade L. T. t Carle ton of Wlnthrop brought up the question of tho next mooting, and presented an invitation from thp Rumford Falls Board of Trade asking the regiment to be the guests of the town in 1896. Mr. Carleton seconded the invitation in a 6peech highly eulogistic of Oxford county and her bears and promised an excursion into the Rangeley region.Comrade H. H. Burbank of Saco, seconded tho idea, and Comade Swasey of Ruumford Falls repeated the invitation of his town. Comrade Horace H. Sargent of Portland, was also in favor of itIt was voted almost unanimously to go to Rumford.The following officers were elected:President—Benjamin Swasoy of Runi-ford Fails.Vice President—Jerry C. Brackett of Lewiston, Charles F. fiurr of Auburn.Secretary—£. C. Milliken of Portland.Treasurer—John Ham of Lewiston.Executive Committee — Winfield S. Howe of Hanover, Forest E.
