Appeal to the Generous Public.Editors Flake's Bulletin—On tlie part of the good Sisters of Charity, and the suffering poor of the city permit me to return you thank's for the voluntary offering which you so kindly make in opening the columns of the Bulletin and giving lyour personal service in behalf of the suffering poor. In this connection the valuable services of the gentlemen composing the Howard Association cannot bo passed over in silence. X. B. Yard, Chairman, J. L. Briggs, M. M. Mott, G. W. Graves and Rev. Mr. Johns came forward with t;mely relief, which can last only a fow days. The charitable and well disposed throughout the State are by this time aware of the awful dispensation with winch Divine Providence has afilietefi the Island City, and by which an average of thirty persons per day fall victims to the terrible scourge. The hospital aud chapel for the Sisters are full, and not one dollar in the coffer. The other hospitals are also full, but remember readers, that they are supported by revenue. The Sisters of Charity one year ago bid a last adieu to country, parents and friends, and in January commenced building their house, but while the hospital is , still in a state of embryo, ' the epidemic appeared, to which the Superior fell one of its first victims, which accounts for me being called upon to act as temporary financial agent. The wealthy and salubrious cities, towns and hamlets of the interior that are far from the influence of the epidemic, will come forward to cast thei^offerings of benevolence and charity into the^gffers from whence relief lias been a®*eady dispensed to those who had no othen^esource, and, will yet be given to many wno, without the Si$ters*liospital, would sink under the weight of misery and distress. In the city of San Antonio, John Twohig, F, Giseand, T. O’Dwyer and James Callaghan, Esqrs.y will please collect and forward with as little delay as possible ; John Linn, Esq., ofVictoria, will do likewise ; John Kennedy, Major Dick Dowling aud John Collins, Esqra., of Houston, are called upon to collect money, flour, biscuit, porter,' brandy, sherry wine,. mattresses, blankets, sheets, towels, c. Remember that beddidg cannot be used in many cases more than once. Any of the articles will be applied to proper use if sent to me or to the office of Flake’s Bulletin. The names of the donors, with the sum or articles annexed, will be filed in the archives of the hospital. - r James P. Nash,Temporary Financial Agent Charity Hospital.Galveston, August 22, 1867.
