Area Man Awarded Bronze Star MedalFFC. MARVIN E. HIMESClermont Soldier Gets Bronze Star For Korean ActionPfc, Marvin E. Himes, son of Earl Himes, Clermont, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal lor meritorious service in Korea.A member of Co. F, 21st Infantry Regt., 24th Infantry Division, he was cited for his service from March 4 to Nov. 11, 1951.The citation reads. In part:“He performed his duties as a ! driver in an' exemplary manner throughout this phase of operations. Working under the most adversefield and weather conditions, he, |1nevertheless, carried out p\\ as- signed missions efficiently /and'J1capably.“He often had to drive his vehicle through enemy-infested areas and has helped evacuate wounded, hand-carried am munition and supplies to the men on the front line, j “Pvt. Himes' deep devotion to duty, tireless efforts and unhesi-tant willingness to accept extra responsibilities reflect great credit on himself and the United Statesinfantry.Himes enlisted in the Army on i Aug. 11, 1950, and took basic training at Fort. Knox, Ky. From there, he was transferred to Fort Lawton, Wash., and arrived in Korea on Feb. 12, 1951.Shortly after arriving in Korea, he was seriously wounded and spent several months in a hospital at Osaka, Japan.He returned to the United States Dec. 11, 1951, for re assignmentand Is currently stationed at Fort Eustls, Va., where he is attached to the 1st Engineer Construction Battalion.Pfc. Himes wears the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and four battle stars.
