the few remaining Civil War veterans of this county, was born in Wells County, O.. August 17th, 1844. He has been a resident of Tipton county since 1S72 and since 19b2 has resided in Windfall.The veteran has beeu twice married. His first wife, who was Miss Margaret Love, to whom he was married at the close of the war, died in childbirth in 1874 while residing north of Sharps-ville. The child. Cornelhis for whom she gave her life lived tobe two years of age dying of acute stomach trouble. ^His second wife to whom he was manicd in 1S77 wa- Mis .Mary Garu* r and they have eight children living.Mr. Itrowning, now past 84*years of age, is in fairly good health and he enjoyed the day as much as any one. lie enlisted in Company L. 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery at Kokomo in 18G3 and served uutil the close of the war being musti red out July 29, 1865. He was in several battles and numerous skirmishes including Chickamauga, Hull Run, Pleasant Hill and others. .Mr. Browning and his wife live comfortably He secures a pension of $72 from the government which ausw'ers their small needs.
