Navy Awardsfor HeroismWASHINGTON, Aug. 19——Secretary of the Navy Knox has awarded the navy cross to seven officers for heroism in action against the enemy, the navy announced today. -/-r IIn addition, the distinguished flying cross has been awarded one officer and 15 others have been commended for meriotorious action. All but two of the awards were made for action in the Pacific.Among those awarded the navy cross were:Lieutenant Commander Edward N. Parker, 38, of Bellefonte, Pa., (a gold star m lieu o fa second navy cross), for leadership and skill that resulted in several hits on the enmy while he was commanding a destroyer division under heavy gunfire. The navy said that after the attack he withdrew his forces ‘ from grave danger without serious damage, due to his excellent judgment and fine seamanship.” Among those commended were: Lieutenant Commander Denys Knoll of Erie, Pa., for actions during defense of the Philippines.
