D, in a letter to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Asa L. Bowen, under date of somewhere in France, says: I have been having afine time and have seen some beautiful scenery in course of our travels. There are large castles upon the hills, which make you want to explore them, but, of course, we can't do that. Most of the buildings are built of stone. I have neen engaged in the truck service since coming here and at present have one assigned to my charge. We have traveled over many miles of country, but no place have I found.the pikes any worse than those at home. All roads are improved and are built for heavy traffic, and it is a pleasure to drive over them. 1 can not tell you where we are, except that we are on a quiet American sector, some miles from the front line trenches. There is hardly anything doing in the daytime, but at night the American guns flash when they fire at the German air craft. We can sit in our truck and see air ships sailing overhead at any time of day. But the night is when the fun begins. None of us think of danger, although just then two big guns cut loose. We are well protected and have nothing to do but work at our trucks, which are kept going day and night. The Americans are steadily driving the Germans t ack. The deaths here are no greater than those caused by accidents and sickness in the United States. We have the best of care and good food. Do not worry for I believe before long we will all be sailing for the United States. Give my best regards to everybody.Gernie W. Hoaglin, with''the American forces in France, in a letter to his parents, has been promoted to corporal. The letter says in part: Think I will stay here awhile and help train some new men that are to come. I know about every one here now. We soon get to know one another for we are all Americans. There are many Americans in France, see them every place you go. There is lots of pretty scenery here, too. The war looks real good lately. I guess they will keep the Germans on the run from now on. We hope so and will try hard enough anyway.
