Lt. Charlene R. Sakenes, a 1966 graduate of Saint John College of Cleveland, recently was reassignment from duty in Vietnam to nurse procurement in Northern Ohio for the U.S. Navy.Lt. Sakenes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sakenes of Cleveland, enlisted in the Navy Nurse Corps Candidate Program as a junior nursing student at St. John College (a full scholarship program with a stipend per month during the last 24 months of a collegiate nursing program). Her duty stations have included the Naval Hospital, San Diego, Calif.; the Naval Dispensary, A d a k , Alaska; and the Naval Hospital, DaNang, South Vietnam.Lt. Sakenes has worked primarily in various phases of the Intensive Care Units — medical, surgical, and cardiac. She is particularly interested in the “legal aspects of nursing/’She is authorized to wear the following medals; Navy Commendation, National Defense, Vietnam Campaign, and the Vietnam Service.
