29 Men Here Informed Army Induction Is DueToday, notification of their selection for induction into the armed services on September 1 went out to the 29 .men who passed physical examinations on August 2.The men are to leave for the Cincinnati induction station via bus at 8:05 a. m.The men are, from Middletown and nearby areas — James Hall, West Middletown Route 1* Thomas John Gorman, Trenton Route 1 Hee-cie James Ingram, 2503 Minnesota Ave. Alfred Lee Withrow, 402 McKinley St. Ernest D. Forrest Patrick Robbins, Oxford Route 3. and George Edward Conklin, Oxford Route 1.It is reported by draft officials that several (4 the registrants will be eligible to ask for deferment under the recently-passed law regarding college students in the upper-half of their classes. Just how many will come under this new law in the group of 29 was not revealed. Draft board chairman Wylie Mitchell has said the board will consider each case for deferment individually and will not set a blanket plan whereby anyone in the upper half of his class and desiring to finish his college course will be deferred automatically.The 29 men selected are the first called for induction since late 1948.
