Interviewed.....Somewhere in Korea”A group of communications MATS, are interviewed aboard aspecialists 01 the AirwaysAir Communications Service,Lt. “Mel Edwards is a graduate of Thornton Township high school, class of 1936 and a long time resident of Homewood and Harvey prior to his joining the Army Air Force in 1941.Edwards attained the grade of Staff Sergeant prior to receiving a commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1943. He received his promotion to first lieutenant while serving a 22 month tour of duty in the Central Pacific area during World War II.He is a member of the 1808th Airways and Air Communications service, Wing headquarters in Japan but has recently been placed on detached service with the Public Information division, Far East Air Forces.Edwards’ wife, the former Helen Logan of Homewood, and his two daughters. Carolyn and Judith, are presently with him in Japan. His sister is Mrs. Dallys Hercules.
