I Fifty Years Ago Sunday.i| Fifty years ago last Sunday, August 11, the citizens of this community were not inquiring the re1 suits of the base ball scores but were making preparations for war. It was titty years ago on the above date that a number of Canneltoni-ans enlisted in the service of Uncle Sam, among them John Senn, David L. Robinson, still living,I and Burks Mason and John J. Bristow, doceased. The “recruiting station1' where these gentlemen “signed up11 was located in the old Mozart Hall, on Front street, and was in charge of Capt William McKinley. Mr. Senn then resided in Tell City, but he came here to enlist with “the boys” he knew for two particular reasons, first that he wanted to avoid being lonesome and secondly that if anything befell him in the service there would be somebody to notify “the folks back home”. He servedifaithfully for 2 years and 10 months with the “Deckhands” Co. K. Slst Indiana Vols., and was under Rosencranz, Sherman and Thomas in the battles of Stone River, Cbickamauga, Atlanta Cam-paigh, Franklin and Nashville. His company was mustered out on June 13 when he returned to Can-nelton and is still here.
