Independence — Award of the bronze star medial to Tech. Sgt. Alfred H. Sullivan (right), Independence. has been announced by Ninth air force headquarters. Sergeant Sullivan, a crew chief on a B-26 Marauder bomber, at Ninth air force bomber base commanded by Col. Joe W. Kelly of Columbus, Ind., was presented the award at a formation by Brig. Gen. Samuel E. Anderson, commanding general of the Ninth bomber command. Sergeant Sullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Sullivan of Independence, is crew chief of a B-26 Marauder which has flown 70 combat missions since February.Mr. and Mrs. Art Me A toe have received a telegram from the war department informing them that their son, Sgt, Stanley McAtee, 31, was seriously wounded. The following day they received a letter j written by Sergeant McAtec, stat-i ing he had been shot in the leg but was getting along fine. He is in a hospital somewhere in France.Staff Sgt. Don Risdon, son of G. L. Risdon, received the air medal at ceremonies at. the Ninth air force troop carrier base in the European theater of operations for outstanding flying ability and courage in the paratroop drop over the Cherbourg peninsula in France on D-Day, in the initial wave of troop carrier C-47’s of the Allied invasion. The citation accompanying the award, presented by Brig. Gen. Paul h. Williams, chief of the Ninth troop: carrier command, states Risdon remained at. his radio controls.; thus directing ihe piano over the: parnlroop drop zone, safely bring- . ing the plane ana crew back tO| base.★ ★ ★
