rGENUINE CONFEDERATE FLAGS.Willard Baker of the firm of Baker Knox, corner of Nineteenth street and Twenty-second avenue, in Rock Island. TIL, has on display at his store three relics of the late civil war, which are very interesting to veterans and others. All persons interested are cordially invited to call there and see them. Mr. Baker lived at Big Rock in Scott county, la., many years before and after the war. He was a member of Company C, Twentieth Iowa infantry. When the regiment entered Vicksburg on the morning of July 4th. 1863, he took possesison of the battle flag floating before the confederate headquarters ( he being at the time flag corporal). The brigade commander, Gen. Vanderveere, afterwards Instituted search for the flag, but the young sohlier had securely hidden his prize and soon afterward sent it home. This* flag is five feet square, the body is of red farmer’s satin with St George's cross of blue merino. On the cross are thirteen white stars. In I860 at Mc-- \ bile, Alabama. Mr. Baker capturefl two e ] more flags. One is the confederate na-111 tional flag first used. This flag is 12 si •t | feet long by 4% wide. The other flag which is especially rare, is the Fortification j Palmetto flag of South Carolina. This £ ! flag is 10 feet long by 7 feet wide.
