BRITISH WAR GROSSFOR CAPT GRINNELLFour French War Crosses IAlso Received HereACylit/\0 0 ( K1ttfnCThe first British decoration to arrive at the recruiting office was received Saturday and will be awarded to Capt Francis Grinnell of Charles River. Mass. Capt Grinnell was given the British Military Cross for exceptional bravery. No c itation accompanied the Cross and the deeds of the captain have not .vet been learned.Four French Croix m Guerre were also received at the office. The following citations accompanied the medals:Capt Wllfpot Whitney, U Copley «t.Newton. ItSd Infantry. An officer ofgreat bravery. Trained his men duringa long forward movement, encouraglgthem by his daring and fearlessness. Attained all the objects that had been as-signed to him. .“Private Lawrence J. Kelley, Woburn,Co F 101st Infantry. With two men ho advanced in front of the lines, despite the danger, capturing two machine gunsand taking six prisoners.**“Charles B. Johnson, Concord, ser- I .. geant, Battery A, 101st Artillery. His ,;’ battery being exposed to enemy artlllety \ 1 tire and his munition dump having been j t hit. he showed the greatest coolness in ! putting out, personally, three lires that ; 1started up and later, in transporting the | ijwounded to cover, in spite of the bom-1 e bardment, i“First-Class Driver David Gallery. | * Wellesley, S. June k, j f 1918, a great number of wounded were at L. a dressing station, only 300 meters from j the lines, and he drove his ambulance in 1 spite of violent machine-gun tire, brought « seven wounded to the rear, keeping them ! o from being captured, as the dressing ' * station fell into the hands of the enemy only a few moments later.*’Capt Wilmot Whitney, who will be presented the Croix de Guerre, is an old Harvard athlete.
