Frank Merrill, who led his famed Merrill's Maurauders an a 700 mile lungle trek to capture the Myitky-ina air field and open the siege of Myiikyina, has been replaced by Brig, Gen. Tneodore Wesels, it was announced today by Gen. JosephW. Stilwell,Stiiwel] said Merrill had been appointed liaison group officer in the Cluna-Burma-India theater because of his health.“I considered li unfair to ask a fu^the'r effort from a valuable officer which might have a lasting effect on his heallh, and therefore have transferred him to a less arduous but equally important duty,” Stilwell said.
