Judge F. W. Matthis called the meeting to order, and on motion Hon. W, A. Porter was appointed President* mho -briefly explained the object of the meeting. Samuel Knmsey and Curtis Roby, Esqs., were appointed Vice Presidents, and Wm. C. Green and George W. Doubo were appointed Secretaries.Judge T. C.-Slaughter introduced the following preamble and resolutions, which were unanimously adopted, viz:Whereas, A large number of the citizens of this county, who at the call of their country took up arms and gallantly risked their lives in defence oJ‘ the Government against the assaults of a wicked rebellion, having survived the peril of the held, and having faithfully served their country, have been honorably discharged, and once more returned to their homes and their friends, we deem it a duty to give some public manifestation of our appreciation of their patriotic services, and heroic sacrifices in the cause of their country; tborefore,Resolved, That the citizens of this county tender to her gallant soldiery a public welcome and free barbecue, at Corydon, onSaturday the 14th day of October, 1865, to which wo invite all returned soldiers, and alt soldiers at home at that time on furlough, and their friends.Rc$oIceJt That in order to carry into effect the purposes of the foregoing resolution, the President of this meeting appoint thefollowing committees, viz:let. A committee on contributions, to consist of sixty-two persons, whose duty it shall be to solicit and collect contributions, iu money, or donations in provisions, for such barbecue, and pay the same over to the Executive Committee, or to some person designated by them as Treasurer.3d.
