Second OffshoreRadar Stationstation—Texas Tower—will belaunched at noon or midnight tomorrow, the builders said today.The tides and finishing touches on the 6,200-ton, 10 million dol-1 lar man-made island wil deter-!mine the exact launching time.The huge structure has been built in a basin—where World War II liberty ships took shape— by the Walsh Holyoke division of Continental Copper Steel Industries. It will be towed to a station near Fishing Rip Shoal, about 50 miles southeast of Nantucket Island.The Texas Tower is described as an improved version of the first one, which has been oerat-ing since last December on Georges Bank, 110 miles east of Cape Cod. Another Texas Tower is under construction here. They are so-called because of their resemblance to tidal oil landsbarges and super-structure.The three 14-foot-around legs of the Texas Tower will be sunk 50 feet into the ocean floor. The 20-foot thick platform will be the home of 60 Air Force personnel.A one-day wildcat strike at the Walsh-Holyoke plant by nearly 600 workers delayed work somewhat.
