Robert Baer Listed Officially As MissingThe Navy’s list of men missing in action, just published, includes Robert Baer’s name. Pharmacist’s Mate Baer enlisted in the Navy in September, 1940, following his graduation from the Delphi high school and took his basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois. The son of Mr. and Mrs. John Baer, he was transferred to the naval base at San Diego, where he spent three months from December to February, 1941. A year ago this week he was sent to China aboard a destroyer and later was transferred to Cavite in the harbor of Manila, P. L Since he is listed among the missing, it is assumed that he was taken prisoner by the Japanese when the city of Manila capitulated.Baer’s parents received a notification that their son was missing in June, and that letter was published in The Delphi Citizen. Since Mr.Mrs. Baer have received no further communication from the navy department since June, they assume that the Navy is just now making public its official list of the missing. -v--
