Speaking of former, Oxnard athletes in the service we hear that Jackie Newman, sensational young softball pitcher, is now in Korea with the 40th Infantry Division. Charley Jones, Newman's teammate 011 last year’s city championship team is also in Korea along with Vern Scanlancj and Billy Cox.Norris Fletcher, Oxnard High’s football hero of IMoO, is reported to be in Germany as is baseball star Bueford Martin. Gene Needham, another of the group that enlisted in the Army last February, has left for New York, apparently for an overseas assignment.
