Plane Shot Down; Plover Boy SavedFrom Fort Dodge Messenger. Plover, July 31—Lieut. Loren E. Hubbell, who was rescued by a fishing boat after his Flying Fortress was shot down during last Saturday’s raid on Kiel, Germany, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Byron B. Hubbell who live three miles northwest of here.Lieut. Hubbell, 23, enlisted in /the army air corps as an aviation cadet in December, 1041, and was trained at Tucson, Arizona, and California before he was sent overseas.He is one of nine children, eight boys and a girl, in the Hubbell family and a Plover high school graduate. A brother, Allen Hubbell, 29, is an aviation mechanic at Roswell, N.M.Mrs. Hubbell said the family has heard from Lieut. Hubbell regularly at least once a week since he has been in England. Two letters arrived this week.Hubbell has written that he had taken part in two bombing missions but these did not include the Kiel raid.“Due to censorship he can tell us very little about the raids,” Mrs. Hubbell said. “All he has been able to tell us about them so far is that ‘we went to town.’ ”Later NewsTuesday of this week Mr. and Mrs. Hubbell received a cablegram from the Adjutant General stating: “Report received states your son, 2nd Lt. Loren Hubbell missing in action since July 25, over Rostock, Germany. However I am pleased to report he was returned to duty, date unreported.”Shortly after receiving the above the Hubbels were delighted to get a cablegram from Loren stating that he is well and letter follows.
