Charles Cottingham Lauded for Unselfish PatriotismShown.E. A. MacMillan Charles W. Cottingham was bornat Grannls, Arkansas. February 22,1899. He was the son of John D. and Laura Cottingham, who reside at 826 East Seventh street, this city.Surviving him are two brothers andtwo sisters, Virgil E., a graduateof East Central and also of theUniversity of Oklahoma and one of j the coming geologists of the state, M. H., Anna and Ethel. Anna finishes her Normal work the coming fall, and is one of the best teachers the Normal has devloped. Ethel is a Junior and Is a splendid young lady with every evidence of the very highest pedagogical ability. Charles was educated in theStonewall schools, later attending the Normal, where he spent three terms and was a universal favorite. He was deeply interested in athletics and was a favorite among the boys of the school. He possessed akeen and quick Intellect, and wasa conscientious and earnest student. I He is remembered by many members of the faculty as one who desired to know all details of the work, and was never satisfied ’till he had mastered the subject.When the war came upon us he; at once answered the call to duty!and enlisted in the medical corps at Tulsa on November 13. 1917 andin the following April reachedFrance. He was sent to the front almost immediately. He was transferred to the 101st Infantry of the 26th Division on July 13.While on active discharge of his duty and aiding his fallen comrades ! he was killed, his death occurringIJulv 24. 1918.
