This is in addition to the first class of 687,000 men already called.At the same time it is announced that medical students and men serving in Red Cross ambulance companies will have no valid claims from .exemptions from the draft, and that agricultural workers and munition factory workers also will be greatly restricted as to exemption.With this information at handword was received at the recruiting4.scd1rlSrrheadquarters of the California Field Artillery Regiment, 749 Spring St., that two additional batteries would be recruited at once, and that men J enlisting in this arm of the service before the second array is called, would be exempt from second draft.pAt the same time it was announced that men listed for the firstidraft could not now be accepted in this regiment, and that the men of the first draft would have to take their service in whatever arm of the service they might be assigned to.In a formal statement issued by4the recruiting officer of the California Artillery Regiment, appearsthe-following statement:*“With the receipt of the draft cards for the first army, we have been ordered to cease the enlistment of men subject to the first draft, but we can still accept men subject to call for the second army.“With but few days remaining and with only two batteries added to our original force thruout California, there are approximately only one hundred vacancies to be filled in this regiment in Southern Califbrnia.“We, of course, do not know how many days will elapse before we are ordered to cease enlistment from thesecond army's quota, but men sub-►Isect to the second call probably will have less than a week in which to enlist in this artillery, if they desire' » *44to choose their own service.►“This announcement made by Adjutant General Boree Tuesday, that exemption districts will not be given credit of! their draft quota for men who enlist voluntarily before posting of draft names, will mean than in all districts in Southern California they will be expected to furnish their full lt;quota of men, and that as a result many men will be called for service who now believeA stock show without any equal is what the management of the Riverside County Fair, October 9-13, has scheduled for this year. With cash premiums much larger than ever before in the departments devoted to horses, cattle and swine exhibitors of blue ribbon stock from-Eureka to San Diego will be among those at the Riverside fair. It is a known fact that in Southern California there, are fattening upon the fat of the land some of the best stock in the state. The owners of all these animals are being eneour-aged to exhibit at Riverside.The National Duroe Jersey Record association has recognized the Riverside fair this year and will give a beautiful silver trophy for the best litter of four Duroe Jersey pigs.Jersey breeders are being encouraged to exhibit this year and when the premiums were revised their cattle were kept foremost in mind and a just share of the allotted premiums were distributed among the jerseys.The Riverside Jersey Breeder’s association offers special cash prizes to juniors exhibiting grade Jersey heifer caTves.The boys and girls interested in Guernseys will find it much to their advantage to select grade female calf under 1 year, it is to the young people as well as their fathers and mothers that the Riverside fair is catering this year.BOW ^0 QUICKLY TELLRANK OF U.
