On dutyLouie Smith III Carl GriffinLouie Smith III, son of Patricia and Louie Smith Jr. of Shingle Springs, and Carl Griffin, son of Anna Tichenot of Pioneer, have enlisted in the United States Army for three years and are eligible to receive S14.400 for college through the Montgomery G I. BillSmtih is a graduate of Independence High School and Griffin is a graduate of Ponderosa High School. Both will report for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga , Griffin on Oct 19 and Smith Oct. 26, and willattend advanced training to become an infantryman at Fort Benning.
