BRONZE STAR WINNER — Cpl. Homer W. Wood, veteran of 29 months overseas, holder of the Bronze Star decoration and Infantryman’s Combat Badge, arrived home last week on a 45-day furlough. His wife is Mrs. Marguerite Wood, Corsicana Route 2, nurse at the P. and S. Hospital. A technician fifth grade, Cpl. Wood was cited as an “outstanding and competent combat soldier, performing his duties as runner in an exceptionally meritorious manner—in total disregard for his personal safety, between October 1, 1944, and Dec. 31 1944. He was also a volunteer m carrying ammunition to thoce in combat. The soldier first landed in North Africa where he was in his first combat, then was with Patton ii the capturing of Sicily, than went to England, participated in the Normandy invasion, was in the Aachen Battle, and served in Germany under both Patton and Hodges as his Ninth Infantry division was transferred from one command to the other. Cpl. Wood was reared in Corsicana. At the end of his furlough, he reports back to San Antonio for re-assignment.
