Chestnut St.Technician Lancaster Gets Special CourseActing upon orders issued by Major General Jacob L. Devers. Chief of Armored Force, Charles Herbert Lancaster, Hq. and Hq. Company, 6th Armored division, Camp Chaffee, Ark., has reported at Fort Knox, Ky., for a special course of instruction in the tank department of the Armored Force School, the modern technical “college” of the /hard-hitting mechanized branch of the army.Technician Lancaster is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lancaster. Seymour Rl, and has been in the service for one year and four months.Headed by Col. Frederick M. Thompson, the tank departmenttrains thousands of officers and enlisted men to repair and maintain all types of tanks, including the latest models. In its modern shops, students tear down tanks piece by piece, study the motor and driving mechanism, and then do their own troubleshooting” and repairing on running motors in a new $500,000 tank engine test building.The mammoth 314-building school, only one of its kind in the United States, graduates some 38,-000 enlisted men, officers and junior officers each year w'ho are taught to maintain and repair the3.000 vehicles, over 700 radios and20.000 weapons used by an armor-ed-division. The school operates fourteen hours a day, six days a week, on a two shift basis. Started Nov. 4, 1940, the school is commanded by Brig. Gen Stephen G.
